Pampered by Pink Agenda
October of 2015 would be the first time going through the month of October and breast cancer awareness month as a survivor. I was still going through treatment at this time so I tried really hard to ignore the pink explosion around me. I wasn’t sure how much of the pink I wanted to have around, but when my friend Heather who I met after we both received our breast cancer diagnosis shared her invite to attend a makeover day at Lord & Taylor with Estée Lauder, I accepted. Heather is the wife of a friend (Matt) from college and while I hadn’t met her until this year, we would soon form a bond in a way I hadn’t with anyone before.
She won a free Pink Agenda Party at our local Lord & Taylor store (Oakbrook, IL). The Pink Agenda and Giuliana Rancic’s FAB-U-WISH gifted her a fabulous Estée Lauder makeover experience as part of their FABtober campaign. As part of FABtober , women like Heather were granted a special wish every day in October. Heather, her mother-in-law, my mom and I were treated to an Estée Lauder makeover one weekend morning and then had the opportunity to sit and speak with Giuliana Rancic.
FAB-U-WISH (https://www.thepinkagenda.org/fab-u-wish/make-a-dream-come-true/) is an initiative established by breast cancer survivor and E! News anchor and television personality Giuliana Rancic to help women undergoing treatment for breast cancer feel fabulous. This initiative is supported and funded by The Pink Agenda.
The Pink Agenda (thepinkagenda.com) is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization committed to raising money for breast cancer research and care, as well as awareness of the disease among young professionals. Born of the belief that engaging today’s generation can go a long way toward finding tomorrow’s cure, The Pink Agenda finds, funds, and partners with people and programs that are improving the lives of those suffering from breast cancer and conducting the groundbreaking research necessary to improve their odds.
The morning of October 24, my mom and I met Heather and her mother-in-law at Lord & Taylor in Oakbrook Center (Oakbrook, IL). We were greeted at the makeup counter with a pink rose, food and drink. We were sent to a makeup station and the pampering began. It felt really nice to be pampered and bring some life back to my dull face. It had been a while since I had put makeup on my face since most days I was just at home or at the hospital going through treatment. We enjoyed some snacks, beverages, good conversation at the makeup counter. Before leaving we were gifted with a beautiful gift basket filled with Estée Lauder products.
After we were photo ready, we made our way to our meet and greet with Giuliana Rancic who was so sweet and pleasant. She gave us her undivided attention and spoke with us about our experiences. We ended our chat with a few snapshots. It was an amazing day and I am so grateful for the opportunity. The four of us (not including Giuliana) capped the day off with a nice lunch with fresh faces. Later that evening so Heather and I didn’t let our makeovers go to waste, we went on a double date with our husbands to Giuliana’s restaurant RPM. It was a beautiful night and I will forever remember that day! (Giuliana sent us over an amazing cotton candy dessert to make the day even sweeter- thanks Giuliana!)
