The LiftMeUp Recliner
Sabine’s Story:
Sabine is a 7-year breast cancer survivor. Diagnosed in 2014, she had 2 unsuccessful lumpectomies then a double mastectomy with immediate reconstruction. The hardest part of recovery was the loss of independence she experienced. She could not believe how she needed to ask for help for everything! A fierce independent spirit, she kept thinking: there has to be a better way... That's when the LiftMeUp, originally called the Abelift, was conceptually born.
In 2016, using her mechanical engineering background, product development, and customer service experience, she decided to focus full-time on bringing to life the idea of an electric bed recliner to provide dignity and independence to those stuck in bed. After testing several prototypes and surviving a first production run, the LiftMeUp recliner launched in the Spring of 2018.
She is very involved in her local breast cancer coalition and she has partnered with local organizations to offer the LiftMeUp recliner free of charge to women during their recovery after a double mastectomy. Dozens of women in their community and surrounding towns have already benefited from the LiftMeUp recliner post-surgery. While waiting for the LiftMeUp recliner to be reimbursed by insurance, they have partnered with the United Breast Cancer Fund that offers grants to cover the cost of the rental of a LiftMeUp recliner for those who can't afford it.
THE LIFTMEUP RECLINER:
The LiftMeUp recliner is a motorized device that instantly transforms ANY bed into an adjustable bed, enabling its users to get in and out of bed more easily, sleep at an incline (that's critical after a breast reconstruction!) and recline comfortably, all at the touch of a button!
Shortly after its launch in 2018, the LiftMeUp recliner won the Silver Award in the New Product Pavilion at the Medtrade show, the largest Home Medical Equipment show in the US. It is available for sale and for rent and it is made in the US!
